My work is about reflecting on my relationship and questioning life, memory, space, time, and reality. Through the exploration of materials and image-making, I create images that interrogate the verisimilitude of personal memories. My work is informed by my fascination with the concepts of life and death. It intertwines my reflection and observation about personal experience with spiritual affirmations towards the existence of past and present memories. The visuals in my work combine autobiographical elements and images documented throughout my day to day experiences. This approach allows me to weave personal experiences with environments, blending reality with fantasy. Working across various mediums, I combine digital and analogue photography with textiles, fibers, video, audio installations allowing me to navigate my reflection of the complexity and perception of life. In my images, I construct layering, fragmentation, and abstraction to explore the tension between reality and imagination because I am drawn to their transformative power to question what is permanent and what is imaginative. Through my work, I hope to construct a dialogue about the appreciation for the life that was provided to me and others. This work allows me to slow down, and reflect on the past to the present. Reflecting and observing the memories they have accumulated over my lifespan and asking about the values they have provided for the human experience. According to philosopher Dr. Charles Fernyhough, it’s the past that informs us today, and what drives us to be the person we are today. Questioning the memories that were once held in the past and comparing them to the memories being made in the present. It is a bridge connecting personal history (validated by past witnesses) and the memories that were stored in my mind. Fostering moments of connection and intimacy between artist and viewer thus allowing the audience to understand myself as a person in this current timeline.
